Buy Nothing Day is an interesting concept to fight the "shop til you drop" syndrome. [ link via riothero ]

happy thanksgiving

Well, I'm thankful for many things, and right now I'm thankful that Blogger is up and running, and going pretty smoothly.

I'm smack dab in the middle of all this Thanksgiving hoopla right now... relatives have arrived, kids running around... not much computer time... it's cool, really!

Anyway, Happy Turkey Day to all... and be safe.

Sincerely,
Carlos

"my expedition 4X4"
"san diego hardcore site"
"my life has been a tapestry"

"KUSI News story archives"
"pix of ladies taking off their clothes one by one"

Glenda's pix from her Pre-Thanksgiving get-together has my stomach growling in anticipation of Thanksgiving dinner!

Whoa, Cyn! This is an in-depth profile of you on the aarising.com site.

Becky has the cutest baby pic on her blog.

At first I thought it was her new born baby, but later, after her explanation... of course, it was her.

I remember when my wife and I had our first one, someone told me that sometimes the "smiling" meant they'd just gone "poopy" in their diaper.

loobylu

Does anyone out there not know about Claire's site?

Sadly enough, I don't think I'll ever achieve that much cyber-celebrity status. I mean, she's getting something like 400 to 500 hits a day. Yes, I peeked into her stats. I'm a bit amazed, that's all. But she DOES have a superbly designed site with great content, so that stands for SOMETHING!

gearing up for the holidays

feeling: really sore from cleaning
wondering: about my latest obsession, Caesar III
realizing: that the holiday hoopla has begun

From: PeopleThat Matter.org
"I sneeze, and I end up in Starbucks. I jump, there's a Starbucks. I trip and land in Starbucks. I want to move into a Starbucks."
---Ted Carrol

My wife said that yesterday she almost got into an accident out on the freeway. She was coming home from work and it was already dark. A car on her left didn't see her and proceeded to change lanes, almost slamming into her.

And she immediately honked her horn.

Scary how seconds are crucial in situations like that, and that car horns are useful in preventing catastrophe. Well, my wife has a black car so it's hard to see it at night, I suppose.

It's just crazy out there because everyone is gearing up for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Folks, be extra careful out there.

Just the other day I almost got into a accident myself when someone failed to stop at a stop sign. I think people are so into the holidays that maybe they are not as focused in their driving. I don't want to make generalizations, but it IS scary out there. And there IS a difference in the way people are driving out there right now.

I will be alert. I hope you will too. I care about you.

Anyway, it's a beautiful day in Kaycee's world and I'm glad she's back. I'm happy for her, and at the same time relieved. Her latest poem is beautiful, and a sign that she is back and full of inspiration.

I'm still thinking of you, Kaycee. You're in my thoughts and prayers.

just out of touch

I haven't updated these past few days, mainly because of the blogger.com problems. And when it has been working it's been EXTREMELY slow... slow enough to where I would simply walk away in frustration.

My two gigs at Valentino's this weekend were fun as usual. But we've had some tough, unresponsive audiences, and that makes it tough for our frontman and singer. Of course, I don't really care. I just get absorbed in the music and I'm in another world.

The highlight of the Valentino's gigs was on Friday night, when this guy came up with BAGPIPES to sit in with the band! That was a riot, and very fun too. Of course, I was the only guy in the band who could accompany him, and I played my best version of "Scottish Drums" to accompany his bagpipe playing. It was great! And he did a great version of "Waltzing Matilda" on those bagpipes... almost had me in tears.

Also, I'd been into this Sim City type game lately called Caesar III. It places you in control of a Roman Province, and I have to admit that it can be highly addictive. I just love these strategy-simulation games, and this one REALLY makes you think. And the graphics are pretty stunning. Anyway, this is my latest obsession. And my two boys love this game too We'd been fighting over it all weekend. (yes, I'm hoping Santa will bring the new iMac soon).

Yesterday was such a BEAUTIFUL Sunday, all warm and sunny. Cyn sent me a nice, cheerful email too and she also mentioned the beautiful Sunday we had here in San Diego. Pat mentioned it was beautiful to where he was in the Inland Empire, so all of Southern California must've been gorgeous yesterday. It was a nice change.

I've also been getting into poetry and prose lately... digging up old poems, writing new ones... that sort of thing. I've been thinking of bringing back my poetry and prose site, and throwing it back online. We'll see...

We've been getting ready for Thanksgiving too. My sister-in-law's coming down from Santa Barbara this time. So we're just getting everything ready for all this holiday cheer. The holidays seem to be coming faster this year. Last year we bought 90% of our Christmas presents ONLINE from various online stores... Amazon.com, Toys.com, etc... I'm trying to remember if it's too late now to do all this, as last year we were sweatin' it because Amazon.com was "swamped" with orders... we got our orders just a few days before Christmas!

Anyway, that's about it for me... I also watched "FANTASIA" on DVD this past weekend. It was GREAT as usual, and I really was inspired by the "Making Of Fantasia" documentary that was also included in the extras. Fantasia was one project Walt Disney really put his heart and soul into. I think it's a true work of art.

violets and amethyst

You send me letters,
and I anticipate their coming,
but--
I know not how to answer them.
Perhaps I will give you
my thanks and appreciation instead
in the form of a poem...
for I love and appreciate what you put into words.
The beauty that you are--
I represent with Violets.
(A gentle,expressive color that
reminds me of a deeper love.)

The thoughts that you are--
I see in the gem, Amethyst.
(a strong yet beautiful stone
that reminds me of the strength
of friendship.)

Violets and Amethyst...

I can never understand
the hidden meanings,
but I can feel the beauty
of each stroke of the pen,

and,
to my surprise,
those feelings are much more
than what I had expected.
