I saw one of the videos (online) of the women being assaulted in Central Park. I was disturbed by the casualness by the male attackers, as if it was totally acceptable to everyone there. It's just scary how men will congregate and because of this macho bonding attitude, they do some pretty "lame" things. But I commend the one male who worked his way into the crowd and pulled one of the women out to safety. The police were accused of being too casual about the whole thing too. That disturbs me. Wasn't it just months before that police were way too paranoid and blew away this African-American who was unfortunately in the wrong place at the wrong time? Where are the priorities?

I'm wanting to get a little more serious with Yoga... it aids in my performance on the drums, and it helps me stay centered... I admire Sting for maintaining a very disciplined practice of Yoga. My 8 year old son practices Yoga too. I taught him some very basic postures like the lotus posture, and he loves to stand on his head.

Here's a nice page on the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali.

I love the PBS website. It's such a fun place to explore... when I have the time, of course (it's a huge site). But speaking of exploration, PBS explores the possibility of life beyond Earth.

In the movie, The Matrix, there appears to be a reference or two regarding eastern philosophy, maybe Zen Buddhism.

In the movie, Enter The Dragon, Bruce Lee compares a student's lesson to a "finger pointing at the moon". If you keep your sight focused on your finger you stand a chance to lose sight of the moon and all its "glory and splendor".

This morning I was a designated driver for my younger son's classroom field trip. We went to the Frida Kahlo exhibit at the La Jolla Museum Of Contemporary Art. I learned a lot of things today. For one, 2nd graders CAN be genuinely interested in modern art, and two, they CAN be very well behaved in an art museum. I was very impressed. Also, kids love Disney Radio on the AM dial!

My oldest son is obsessed with Chinese culture. At 11, you'd think he would be into the usual things a kid his age would get into... Well, as eccentric as he is sometimes, he's a good kid, and I found this great site for him... The Dragon Robes of China's Last Dynasty

I've recently been getting back into running. I have a treadmill so I've been alternating between running out in the street and on the treadmill. I've always dreamed of finishing a marathon and in 1988 I finished the America's Finest City Half Marathon, so the idea of going for a full 26.2 mile marathon is something to work toward.

Today I redid my entire weblog. I feel "random excess" should be given its own web page, so here we are. I might even change the name again. We'll see...

What do I hope to accomplish? Well, for one thing, I've been wanting to design something a bit more "cleaner" as far as white space is concerned, and I hope to achieve it here. But I intend to make this a more personal weblog, not really attached to the band stuff.
